When I paste a number it automatically inserts a plus sign. It would be great if it I could turn it off. Or, make the auto insertion more intelligent... if it is a replace, not an insert, then don't add a +... or, if there already is an operator preceding the replace or insert, don't add a plus.

Sure, it's probably a bug that a "+" is being inserted when it's a replace. We can disable the automatic insertion in this case.
